Review: Room

Author - Emma Donoghue No. of Pages - 336 Year of Publication - 2010 Rating - ❤️❤️ ❤️ One of the many things that this book taught me is that—it is not important to categorize books in genres. This book wasn’t a romance quite evidently. It contained emotions and sentiments showcasing the mother-son relationship in a poignant manner along with thrills throughout the plot but yet, I cannot label it as a 'thriller'.  I have a habit of reading the book and then watching its movie adaptation to compare them and 99.9% times, I prefer the book over the movie. No big discovery, right? But something really strange happened in case of this book—I liked the movie a little bit more than the book. I know many of you might say that it cannot happen and I totally agreed with it till I watched the adaptation of this book. To be honest, I didn’t get too emotional while reading the book but while watching the movie, there were few moments when my eyes were moist....

Review: The Murder of Roger Ackroyd

Author - Agatha Christie Genre - Thriller/Mystery No. of Pages - 368 Year of Publication - 1926 Rating - ❤️❤️ ❤️❤️ ❤️ I can never help loving Christie's work. And I am never disappointed or bored by a single page of her books. I read this book having an assumption that this time I would be able to guess the climax and the ending. But I was totally astonished by the climax. I actually gaped at the pages with disbelief. The ending of this book is unimaginable, however hard you try. If you want to read classics but don't know where to start, start with a Christie's novel. I assure you, you will never get disappointed. I had randomly picked one of her books at the book fair once and since then I have enjoyed reading her work. The protagonist of this book is Dr. Sheppard and also, the accomplice of Hercule Poirot in this murder mystery. Dr. Sheppard receives a call just after he returns from a meeting with Roger Ackroyd. The mysterious caller breaks the news of Roger...

Review: Before I Go To Sleep

(Contains Spoilers) Author - SJ Watson Genre - Thriller No. of Pages - 368 Year of Publication - 2011 Rating - ❤️❤️❤️(3.5) I admit, this book had me guessing till the end. And the ending wasn't something that I saw coming.  I found this book far more thrilling than 'The Girl On The Train' which was somehow predictable for me. In the beginning, I didn't have even a speck of hint or clue about the climax. That's the thing that kept me glued to this book and I read it by spending my one whole day. I won't say it was a "proper page turner". I had some difficulty in reading the starting one-third part of it because it wasn't much appealing and things were repetitive. But it took a pace after around half of it was read. And the climax was excellent. The book revolves around a woman named Christine Lucas who is suffering from amnesia. She is living from moment to moment without having any idea about her past or future. Her case of amnesia is ...

Review: The Girl on the Train

(Contains Spoilers) Author - Paula Hawkins Genre - Thriller No. of Pages - 395(US)/ 320(UK) Year of Publication - 2015 Rating - ❤️❤️❤️ This book has won 2015 Goodreads Choice award in best mystery and thriller category and it was at No. 1 among The New York Times Fiction bestsellers of 2015. My hopes were high, but it did not match my expectations. When you read a thriller, you expect something out of everything. Like each word seems like a clue and you try to solve the mystery on your own by cracking those clues. I didn't get any major clues while reading this book. And it was quite exhausting.  The readers who have already read this book would relate more to my review. Rachel is a 32 years old alcoholic, divorced from her husband Tom, who is now married to Anna, the 'mistress'. Another couple lives a few houses away from Tom and Anna's house(where Tom and Rachel lived once), their names are Scott and Megan. First, the protagonist Rachel Watson is an al...

Review: And Then There Were None

Author - Agatha Christie Genre - Thriller No. of Pages - 320 Year of Publication - 1964 Rating - ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️ Unlike my earlier reviews, this one is about a thriller. And actually a mind boggling thriller. This is one of those books which will keep you awake through the night with your mind bubbling with questions. A sure shot page turner. And the end will be something you could never imagine.  A mysterious person U.N. Owen invites ten people to his island for different purposes and so the blunder begins. People start dying without any possible explanations and the murderer could only be someone among them because they are the only people on the island. There seems no way they can escape the island and neither do they have any link to the outside world. The fear of death is hanging on their heads and no one is out of doubt. Every person is suspected. Any plans or strategies made to catch the murderer are futile in the end and the reason will become obvious when you read the...
