'Noah and Allie'. I consider them the modern Romeo and Juliet. This was my first Sparks' novel and I literally fell in love with his writing after reading it. Characters, setup, plot, expression, I give this novel ten on ten for everything. I don't like reading ebooks personally but I had heard so much about this book that I couldn't wait to buy a paperback and downloaded the ebook. This book is a pure romantic fiction but it is not boring at all. The author has portrayed the characters of Noah and Allie so beautifully that you will certainly fall in love with them.
The book opens with an old man giving his introduction while he heads towards a room. A room where he has been going for three years just to narrate the same story to a woman suffering from Alzheimer.
The story he reads from his notebook is about Noah and Allie. They meet each other when Allie comes to spend the summer in Noah's hometown and they eventually fall in love. But their love is one of a kind. They play, laugh and enjoy the small joys of life. There seems no way they can live without each other but they have to, when Allie's wealthy parents take her away forcibly and their relationship comes to an end.
Fast forward fourteen years, Noah is 31 and Allie is 29 years old. Allie is engaged to Lon whom her parents like a lot. Allie comes to know about Noah and the place where he is living through a newspaper article and she decides to pay a visit.
The lost memories and love are revived and embraced when the two long lost lovers meet again. Both of them are still in love with each other but Allie is in a dilemma because of her engagement with Lon. She is enlightened about the fact that Noah wrote letters to her for one whole year, everyday, 365 letters which were confiscated by her mother so that she could never read them. But what she decides to do in the end is the best that could be done.
The thing that pleased me about this book is that it isn't any common love story. The plot is amazing and so are the characters. I just love this book so much. A movie adaptation(2004) has also been made based on this book by the same name. I have watched the movie and it's quite amazing but not as amazing as the book(as always).
The sequel to this book is 'The Wedding' by Nicholas Sparks.
