Five easy tips to become an avid reader

Many people out there want to become avid readers. Purposes can be different. Someone aspires to become a writer one day but the other just wants to improve his vocabulary. In any case, you must have some basic idea about books and reading if you are not a book-bosomed creature by birth.
In this post, I am going to share some tips and habits which you require to become an avid reader. Nothing out of the way, just some small things which will promote the craving for books in you.

Have you ever wondered how readers are able to make fandom references all the time? How do they know the quotes and phrases of their favorite books by heart? And above all how are they able to read so much? Here, you will find the answers to all these questions.

Discover your interests and passion: I developed interest for books in ninth standard by reading Nancy Drew, which is a mystery series. And in today's date I love reading YA novels, romance and thrillers. No one can force you to read something without your own interest. You have to discover yourself, which genres interest you.
There are no boundations regarding what you should read. The question is what you want to read?
Poetry, fiction, non-fiction, fantasy, thrillers, historical fiction, horror, science fiction are few of the choices for you. You can even read children's books if you are a beginner. After all there is always time. Start from what you like the most and then move forward. Don't take any pressures about your speed or understanding. Small beginnings sometimes have big and successful endings.

Hit the library: I am one of those people who love collecting books. Even if I have five unread books in my bookshelf I'll buy two more but in the beginning I read books from my school library.

When you are trying to inculcate reading habits, DO NOT buy books straight away. First, browse through your local and school library and read books from there. Sometimes, it's just a few days' ride and you just lose interest in any more reading and the books sit there in your bookshelf peeking at you and pleading you to read them. It will just be a waste of money in that case.

But also, make sure that the library has ample of books for you to choose from. Don't hesitate to ask for help. Some librarians are the best people alive.
You can also read some free ebooks which are available on the internet.

Read regularly: The only way to develop a habit is to do the thing regularly. Same is the case with reading. Even if you read a few pages daily, just read. Don't read forcibly, read as much as you want to. Eventually, your speed and interest both will increase. Reading something before you go to bed is a great habit. Our brain processes the things we read (or study) when we are asleep. I always have a book lying on my bed-stand.

Analyse and Understand: Got stuck on a word? Relax. Google the word and you will find various meanings of it along with synonyms and antonyms. I prefer google over a physical dictionary because it's easy and you get a large variety of information about a single word which you don't get in a physical dictionary.
You can also download various dictionary apps available on the playstore and appstore to use on your mobile phone.
Recently, I came across an electronic bookmark which is available on Flipkart for around 2000 bucks. It is basically a dictionary. You type in the word and it gives you it's meaning.
The description says it holds about 38,000 definitions.

Try to improve your vocabulary: It is true that the more books you read, the richer vocabulary you have but you can also improve your vocabulary in various other ways.
I use an app known as Word Of The Day which I found on the appstore. It is free to download. Everyday you will find a new word adding to your vocabulary. Is also gives the feature to search for the meanings of various words. You can checkout the app from appstore using the link provided below:

When you are reading a book and come across a difficult or new word and you already  know its meaning, it boosts your confidence and motivates you to read more books. And in the long run, a rich vocabulary is quite beneficial.
You can also maintain a notebook and write the new words you learn in it and use them in sentences which make the meaning of the words clearer in your mind.

Don't give up and keep reading. You aren't doing it for anyone else. It will benefit you only. Follow these tips, they helped me a lot and I hope they are of some help to you too. Despite everything else, just read what you love.

Review: And Then There Were None

Author - Agatha Christie Genre - Thriller No. of Pages - 320 Year of Publication - 1964 Rating - ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️ Unlike my earlier reviews, this one is about a thriller. And actually a mind boggling thriller. This is one of those books which will keep you awake through the night with your mind bubbling with questions. A sure shot page turner. And the end will be something you could never imagine.  A mysterious person U.N. Owen invites ten people to his island for different purposes and so the blunder begins. People start dying without any possible explanations and the murderer could only be someone among them because they are the only people on the island. There seems no way they can escape the island and neither do they have any link to the outside world. The fear of death is hanging on their heads and no one is out of doubt. Every person is suspected. Any plans or strategies made to catch the murderer are futile in the end and the reason will become obvious when you read the epi

Review: Safe Haven

Author - Nicholas Sparks Genre - Romance No. of Pages - 432 Year of Publication - 2011 Rating - ❤️❤️❤️ After reading The Notebook , I had high expectations from any other Sparks' book. I wouldn't say that I didn't like this book. All in all it was an okay read. I liked Erin's character a lot. She is portrayed as an independent and brave woman and yes, intelligent too. Alex is a decent character who showcases the idealistic image of a single father who loves and cares for his children more than anything else in the world. And lastly, Kevin, who would like him when he is the self proclaimed villain? I guess no one. Erin moves to Southport, North Carolina after fleeing from her husband, Kevin's house. Erin fell in love with Kevin and they got married but just after a few years of marriage, Erin discovered how obsessed he is with himself and how he wants total control over her moves and her life.  She felt suffocated in his house. She wasn't even al

Review: The Notebook

Author - Nicholas Sparks Genre - Romance No. of Pages - 224 Year of Publication - 1996 Rating - ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️ 'Noah and Allie'. I consider them the modern Romeo and Juliet. This was my first Sparks' novel and I literally fell in love with his writing after reading it. Characters, setup, plot, expression, I give this novel ten on ten for everything. I don't like reading ebooks personally but I had heard so much about this book that I couldn't wait to buy a paperback and downloaded the ebook. This book is a pure romantic fiction but it is not boring at all. The author has portrayed the characters of Noah and Allie so beautifully that you will certainly fall in love with them. The book opens with an old man giving his introduction while he heads towards a room. A room where he has been going for three years just to narrate the same story to a woman suffering from Alzheimer . The story he reads from his notebook is about Noah and Allie.  They meet each other whe
